I wrote my first line of Java on April 30, and today is June 19. The hardest part of a self-taught course of study is deciding what you want to learn, the second hardest part is finding the right resources. I know I want to be a programmer, but chosing a specific thing to dedicate myself to and sticking to it is hard.
I finished the “Learn Java” course on Codecademy on May 5. Then I started a Udemy course on Android Development. Later I stopped the Android course and started a “Java Developer Bootcamp” course. I also bought a Udemy course that was just practice tests for the Oracle exam. The bootcamp course was boring because it was mostly just slides and lectures with very little actual code. I realized I wasn’t learning anything when I took the practice test. I learn by doing. I regret trying to take a shortcut on the road to getting my certification. Yesterday I started another Java course called “Java Programming Masterclass.” It’s not just about passing a test, I need to be able to apply it.
