A Poem from June 8th 2020
I went to the beach on a June summer day
No people were there; no children at play
Complete with tanks and masked armed national guard
On each street of once festive boulevards
Barricades blocking entrance to formerly fun pier
Summer breeze blows only conflict and fear
Remembering rainbow umbrellas announcing carts that sold fruit
While on this summer day the vibe’s hate, plague and loot
Each window art décor covered with plywood and particle boards
Like your favorite song screaming but with all the wrong chords
No smiles, no hugs and no holding hands
Injustice, division and military commands
I’ve run miles and miles here for each marathon start
Though today I’m concerned about humanity’s heart
Together we’ll resist- POC free to be
We cannot let our ship sink deeper into the sea
