like ambulances through rush hour traffic, sirens screaming.

We already know how the subsequent hours will play out -
the way they always do.
But let’s be sure to check all the boxes:
Latest tally of dead — check.
Latest tally of wounded — check
Urgent pleads for action — check.
Immediate calls for stronger legislation — check.
Empty promises from posturing politicians — check.
Partisan pundit jousting's across corporate news networks— check.

In just a matter of days, a week?
Chaos fades to crickets.
America has already shaken it off.
America is beginning to drift and doze again,
waiting for the next crisis to shout us out of our stupors,
the next outbreak of outrage or sudden violence
to blow up our feeds,
wake us up to our newest nightmare.
