5 Habits That I Wish I Had Developed Sooner

I won’t mention “meditation” or “working out” here. Promised.

When you are looking for good habits to develop online, you will be bombarded with millions of results. Most of these suggestions, however, are always the same. Eat healthy food, go for a walk, sleep well, and the other two that I promised I wouldn’t mention.

And while all these habits are crucial — hence their popularity — I wouldn’t pick any of them as my favorite one. They are like the endurance sessions of Basketball practice. Necessary, but not glorious. They are not delivering you the joy and excitement of living; Or of playing Basketball in that case. So in this article, I want to share with you some of my favorite habits. All of which I wish I had developed sooner, but I am so thankful to have with me now.

We sometimes forget basic etiquette when going through our everyday hustle. And I am certainly not the person to judge you in this area. But I found that applying a certain level of etiquette by greeting people, for example, positively impacts my mood throughout the day. Whether it is because it gives you a feeling of belonging, or because you sometimes get a friendly greeting back, or because of some other reason. You should give it a try.

When I first started this habit as a teenager, it was merely to push myself out of my comfort zone. Because at least in the beginning, there is a slight fear of rejection involved. As almost any fear, it is quite improbable and irrational. But it was there and something I was able to work on. With every person, I passed on the street, and with every “hello” (or rather “hallo”, as I am from Germany) I said, I stepped a little bit outside of my comfort zone.

Over the years, this improved my social life tremendously, and who knows what other positive impacts it may have to acknowledge others as human beings.

Managing your energy levels is crucial, especially during a pandemic that may force — or allow — you to work from home.
